• Append a plus ("+") sign and any combination of words or numbers after your email address.

  For example, if your name was outdoorsaddict@gmail.com, you could send mail to outdoorsaddict+friends@gmail.com or outdoorsaddict+mailinglists@gmail.com.

• Insert one or several dots (".") anywhere in your email address.

  For example, if your email address was outdoorsaddict@gmail.com, you can also use outdoors.addict@gmail.com or out.doors.addict@gmail.com...In conclusion Gmail doesn't recognize periods as characters in addresses ~ they just ignore them.

The great advantage is that it can also be a good solution to set up filter for your email address.
